William is a Navy brat.  His mother and father were both United States Navy veterans.  His father died in December 1973 while on active duty.  William joined the United States Marine Corps in 1980 at the age of 19 and served 4 years.  Both he and his wife were heavily involved in helping veterans, especially Marine Corps veterans, though the Marine Corps League.  William ended his volunteer career as the Marine Corps League Department of Georgia Commandant form 2022 through 2024.  His wife served for many years as the Department Paymaster.

William and Luann, the love of his life, were married in 1980 and are still happily married to this day.  They have one son, who is a United States Air Force veteran.

In May of 2025, William and LuAnn began their retirement by moving to Cozumel Mexico where they live with their five cats, Izzy, Emmy, Scamper, Bella and Dahlia.
